It also means turning in the opposite direction (heading east) and finding yourself in a very cool, very walkable district with boutique shops, funky restaurants and one of Toronto’s most attractive features – the boardwalk and beach.

The district features row houses, townhouses and beautiful detached homes. There’s such a wide assortment of opportunities, that it’s hard to completely predict what you’ll find here.

You can go up and down the streets throughout the neighbourhoods in Leslieville and discover that each street has its own character. Partly because the development has been so varied, and the houses are highly individual, you really get a sense of the individuality on every street. You’re certainly not going to have friends coming over for dinner and not being sure whether to knock on your door or your neighbour’s.

Enjoy the Amenities

The area’s main attraction in terms of amenities would be Queen Street, which features a really nice combination of boutique stores and restaurants and eateries. It’s easy to see how the appeal of the Beach district has influenced the development of businesses along the section of Queen. As well, Gerrard Street offers a very appealing combination of stores and restaurants.

Because of the way Leslieville neighbourhoods have developed, the variety of businesses along the main thoroughfares is still pretty clear of the big names that you might expect downtown. It’s more about independent small businesses than branded coffee shops or restaurants. To us, the benefit of this is a real sense of character and variety.

You’ll see people from the neighbourhood out and enjoying the amenities every day. There are mothers with strollers, people browsing and enjoying themselves, dogs on leashes and a general sense that this is a thriving and active community.

Leslieville is well serviced by public transit, accessible to the Gardiner Expressway as the city’s major east-west thoroughfare, and to the Don Valley Parkway heading north.
